The real trick of this act is that pressing Howie's head really IS doing something; just not what you think.

During the first half of the act, Leeman is holding Howie's head to force him to read the card at an angle. The cards are made on special paper that shows something different based on the viewing angle, like holographic paper or even just ridged paper. Notice that when they release his head, his viewing angle is perpendicular to the page again. Human instinct is to read head on, so only by forcing Howie's head into a particular position is the alternate image, which is just typed up gibberish, visible.

This is also probably why they tore up their trick paper afterwards--destroy the evidence!

That is not magic. If you look closely, you can see a mask below their chins. They are aliens from Beta Carinae system, and that glove is a neuronal frequency radiator that turned off his visual cortex. They chose Howie because he is bald and the waves don't penetrate through hair.

Very clever trick, the cards are shown to the judges in a perpendicular way, and to howie in an inclined perspective. It's like watching someone's phone with the anti-peek layer applied, you won't be able to see anything, it will be all black or blurry unless you're looking directly in front of the phone. It doesn't have anything to do with distance, but actually the inclination of the piece of paper.

Half of the time, when Howie is picked to volunteer, he doesn't have a clue what's happening. He just ends up making a fool out of himself. Which in return turns out to be HILARIOUS.

Those magicians are using pressure points  on the nerves of the brain by applying with finger tips. It effects different part of the brain. Plus I have read it was done by mediums and divination to attract evil spirits/demons to a person. It was discovered by Frank Joseph Gall 1758-1828. I have also read it can be dangerous. If this method used by the wrong person you can disable someone or cause someone death by applying pressure on the nerves of the head.

So I was thinking that, the hand on the head is being used to keep his head in place. The reason why they keep his head there is because the cards change text/picture depending on the angle you view them at. The hand on the head is a fail-safe, he knows he can't move away from the hand, keeping him at the right angle. So they present the cards to the viewers/judges face-on then show them to Howie at an angle. Note how they never put them in front of his face. Still funny to unsuspecting viewers :)

Yes this trick works because Howie is color blind and the guys are using special color-blind cards which will only work for color blind people. Color blind test have 4 types of techniques, probably a few of which are on these cards. 1) Vanishing letters, only people with good vision can see them, color blind people can't. 2) Transformation, color blind people see a different letter, 3) Hidden, opposite of 1, color blind can see, regular vision cant, and 4) classification, not used here, this tells what type of color blindness you are. So these cards obviously have letters on them in color blind patterns that only a color blind person can either see, or see differently. There are 2 sets of cards, the special color blind cards he shows howie first, then the 2nd set which both howie and the audience can see.

because howie’s colorblind he sees a different thing from non-colorblind people. So it really reads the words we see but howie sees another thing. They actually have two sets of cards. so the one set they show howie doesn’t work for colorblind people so he couldn’t read the word we see. When they showed him the second set, he could read the same words we see because the cards work also for colorblind people. So them picking another judge wouldn’t have worked and they purposely chose howie for the trick.

*The secret lies in a simple but fascinating optical illusion. David and Leeman used what is called »hybrid images«. Hybrid images are images which look one way from up close, but another way if you look at them from a distance.

this is exactly the same optical illusion David and Leeman used in this trick. When they show the hybrid image to the audience, the judges and the cameras, they all see normal words like »Comedian«, »Germaphobe« and »Howie Mandel«. But when Howie looks at those same cards, he is so close to them that he is looking at totally different words. When you look at them up close, there are probably just random letters on the cards, so when Howie tries to read them, he just ends up making silly sounds, creating an illusion that he really isn't able to read anymore.
But then how is he able to read them after Leeman releases the pressure on his skull?

Well, it's really pretty simple. The second time, he is shown different cards. David has six cards in his hand. Three have hybrid images on them, and the other three are just normal cards with words.

In the end, David tears the cards and throws them to the floor so they cannot be further inspected. The trick is finished.*
