I've seen his performance few years ago on BGT, but I still find his act amazing. His act is all about psychological tricks. He does great job building up the suspense and tension. His presence on stage, the way he stays in character as mysterious. Also, a huge props to his backstage crews for making sure the act is in synch with background music.

If you noticed, that Aaron chopped from side where Howie held the stick with pineapple. Even if Aaron missed, he would hit the stick from metal not on Howie's head/neck. It was 100% safe.
