My favorite anecdote to Stalingrad is that the Soviet tractor factories were still producing T-34 tanks even as the Germans were shooting at it. They would literally just put the most bare bones of tank together, without any aiming gear, seats or any other comforts, fill it with some hastily trained conscripts, and then drive it out to start shooting at the Germans.

And the small arms factories were even crazier. The Soviets had a factory producing PPSH-41 SMGs in Stalingrad. To testfire the guns to make sure they worked properly, the Soviet workers would just fire the gun at the German soldiers outside the building before shipping it out to the frontline. Which was often like one block over from the factory.
