There's no way that Operation Sea Lion.... Hitler's plan to invade Britain... ever had a prayer of succeeding, and Hitler knew it. He had the same problem that Napoleon did.... a massive army, but no way to get it across the English Channel. The Kriegsmarine barely had any surface fleet to begin with. The Germans didn't have anywhere near the raw materials, resources, manpower or manufacturing capacity to do everything they wanted. So they had to very carefully pick and choose where to apply those assets. With only a handful of long-range strategic heavy bombers, the Luftwaffe was a tactical force designed to support the ground troops. The Kriegsmarine was designed to use the u-boats to starve out Britain, and little else. Germany had only one prototype landing craft, and virtually no support and logistical vessels required for a cross-channel invasion. In contrast, the D-Day invasion included 7,000 ships and 12,000 aircraft, and even then the Allies weren't completely convinced that they were going to be able to pull it off... Hitler's goal was to force the British to capitulate, then cut a deal which would keep them out of the war. Britain was never in any danger of invasion.

A couple of notes: the German soviet “alliance” was a non-aggression pact used by both nations to get more territory aiding each other in the process and this was only signed after stalin proposed an anti-nazi alliance to invade hitler much earlier which the Allies declined and went for appeasement instead, on top of that it wouldn’t be fair to call it an alliance as both nazi-Germany and the USSR hated each other and spoke about it publicly. Also appeasement wasn’t used to prevent a war but rather for Britain and France to build up so that they could fight a war (although Germany and Italy spent their time wiser). Also the French army was pretty capable and Germany also heavily relied on horses and weren’t entirely motorized the main French issue was incompetent generals not the army

The whole point of fascism is to overthrow a nation by putting the government in charge of EVERYTHING. From education to manufacturing to health care. THAT'S true fascism. Sounds damn familiar - and relevant to current US politics if you ask me. Who wants government control of everything in America?
