Ma*******:

We teach girls to shrink themselves
To make themselves smaller
We say to girls
"You can have ambition
But not too much
You should aim to be successful
But not too successful
Otherwise you will threaten the man"
Because I am female
I am expected to aspire to marriage
I am expected to make my life choices
Always keeping in mind that
Marriage is the most important
Now marriage can be a source of
Joy and love and mutual support
But why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage
And we don't teach boys the same?
We raise girls to each other as competitors
Not for jobs or for accomplishments
Which I think can be a good thing
But for the attention of men
We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings
In the way that boys are
Feminist: the person who believes in the social
Political, and economic equality of the sexes

Au*********:

I've looked into the background for this song, and I have an even greater respect for Beyoncé now. This song pretty much means "up yours, bitch, I proved you wrong, now look at me". She truly is a flawless, strong, confident, successful woman (see: Run The World, (Girls)) who has shown through perseverance and years of survival (as in the song, Survivor), that any young girl can aspire and fulfil her dreams just like any man can. If anyone I meet in my life from now on slanders her, I'mma give them the cold hard truth, I'mma set them straight, make them bitches bow down to our Queen B.
And not only is she a brilliant example of the power of women, she's a fighter, proving just how much people of colour are worth, how she overcame our prejudiced society and came out on top.
I know this is a YouTube comment, but I've got to put a few hashtags. #Blacklivesmatter #Feminist #Respect
