I remember after the night I got raped, I came home smelling like my rapist. It was disgusting- I bathed thrice that very same night. Since I was unable to study, I decided to listen to some music. The first song I heard was this one. I had been going through my depression and this rape had made me feel worse. But the moment I heard Gaga say: "I'm going to be a star, you know why? I have nothing left to lose", I cried. Miserably. I felt the same. I had lost everything- And I had nothing left to lose anymore. And that was the day, I decided to get out of depression and get over being raped.

I listened to this song 30 times that day, and I never skipped the cut scene.

Thank god I did that, thank god gaga exists and thank god her art remains.
Thank you Mother Monster, I love you more than you can imagine. I would love to meet you as well.

This and her new music video for 911 are so personal to me. A year ago when I was 19 I was sexually abused and I felt like I had no outlet to put my pain and my anger into. I’ve always been a massive fan of Gaga, but revisiting Marry the Night has been such a blessing for me. I feel like Gaga is communicating all of the emotions I’ve had trouble accepting for so long. She’s such an inspiration and has made me more confident that I can put my trauma into my art in a way that is freeing. I have such respect for her, and still 12 years later she is showing how much of a revolution she is for so many people, including myself!

I used to hate this song because the year it was made I was raped by someone very closed to me, and a year and a half ago I was raped and abused by my ex girlfriend. Now 8 years after the mental health battle started and today I scream it at the top of my lungs because I reminds me of how strong I am now.
