fu*********:
I thought there was literally a underground village based off the title lol

rb********:
I wonder why they never taught us this or even talked about this in school. This was informative.

Su****:
Why is the Seneca exhibition temporary? It should be a permanent exhibit to what happened as other places in the city are. Own the history.

Bl******:
And that’s exactly what happened at the CHAVEZ RAVINE before the DODGER STADIUM in Los Angeles . They destroyed the Latino community on the hill to make way for the dodger stadium . Some of the people there had been living there for 100 yrs .Threw out original homes of the first latino families ever in La promising all kinds of stuff .

Bi*******:

Forgetting about the atrocities your country has done because “it was so long ago” does nothing. We live with the ramifications of the people before us. I am sorry for Seneca Village

So***********:

"Poor whites and immigrants"? They were all immigrants

Ru********:
Are you telling me New York City pushed out a neighborhood of working people to make room for development and the wealthy? That's news to me!

Be*******:

As an English woman I never even knew this part of New York’s history! Thank you for uploading this to educate more people like myself. I shall definitely be telling people I know about Seneca Village.

So**:
Just shows how good America is at covering up corruption. Still to this day it is true...

IM********:

I wish we could know where Seneca Village inhabitants were displaced to.

Wi******:
Wow, now im imagining if their neighbourhood never been demolished. They would live inside the park which is kinda cool

Ja********:

They don’t ever want us to build generational wealth smh

Ma***********:
"It's not just African American history, It's just American history." We need more of that in today's society.

Ix**:

We need a movie about this! Don’t know if there’s one already but someone should do it.

Th****:

These people had PRIME real estate that could have shaped the lives of generations to come for the rest of theirs and their children's children's lives. I wonder how many of these descendants are incarcerated in New York? That would be an interesting find as well.

Mo*********:
I swear I learn more on YT than any type of class!!!!

Ch*******************************************:

........... I didn’t even know there was originally a village there.

Ry**********:

I never took into a fact that a lot people didn’t have toothbrushes. I just completely overlooked that

GD******:

Loved that very educational and I really love reading right into history. It was lovely to hear it was a mixed community, so early on, with the Irish also.

Vt*************:
I don’t think the info panels put in the park should be temporary, they should stay there forever, it’s the history of that land

Sh******:

There should be permanent signs. Never forget “out of sight out of mind!”

Th*****:
History isn’t perfect it’s important we don’t sugar coat it

sw*****:
The definition of “Hippity Hoppity this is now my property”

sh******:

We literally don’t need school at this point

Fi*****:
“Pull yourself up by the boot straps!”

But you took my boots.

We******************:
I was lied to by my 5th grade teacher, she told me that land had never been developed in the history of the US.

Du*********:
“Pull yourselves up by your bootstraps” they say. how when you steal our boots every time we get new ones?

Ch**********:
The fact we had to learn this through archeology is extremely disheartening.

By******:
Of course rich white people built a park over a minority settlement. Theyve been doing that for hundreds of years

Bu*************:
wow I never knew this ! Born in N.Y. Never learned this in school! This is amazing ! Thank you for sharing

Me*******:

the same thing happened in Atlanta with Buttermilk Bottom. It's a shame the settlements that get destroyed in the name of progress

Be**********:
I'm gonna say it in Spanish. Gracias por recuperar la historia de lo que nos han hecho olvidar. Olvidar de dónde somos y quiénes somos.

J*:
When I saw "Seneca Village" I thought this would be on the Seneca people. Kinda disappointed, but still interesting and important. Most people probably don't even know Seneca is the name of the Native American tribe that inhabited large swaths of the mid-Atlantic, including New York.

Jo**********:
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. ' (George Santayana-1905)

Al************:

Thank you for the video. I am looking forward to researching more on this subject. Many don't realize about, 'curriculum' in schools- even public should be thoroughly understood by the parent before enrolling your child, in my opinion. As an adult, I understand the importance. There are certain parts of history that may NOT be a part of your childs' curriculum in school. As a parent who wants THE ABSOLUTE BEST for their children-I encourage parents to look into EVERYTHING their child is taught and be in agreeance.
