Playtime Comments : [Insider] The Ending Of Jordan Peele’s New Movie ‘Us,’ Explained

ar****:

3:10 I love this scene because I think it’s foreshadowing how everyone has their shadow!

Mr**********:

Umbre is the scariest character by far.. FFS look at her @ 8:49

She could have her own spin off

ka*******:
0:47 thats the creepiest smile i ever seen in my life.

IL***********:
4:12 - No, she actually wasn't!

No*******:
3:22 during the movie I was bothered by these scene. I thought, damn Lupita cannot follow the beat to of song.

Ci********:

10:14 Us theme song scary music warning

Ma********:
8:40 that’s not the reason his face is burned. Pluto’s mouth is burned because when the real Jason was repeatedly playing with the magic lighter in the real world above, Pluto was doing the same but with a real lighter (since he’s tethered), causing him to burn himself.

My favorite part is where the white dude slicks his hair back when the other wife reaches for him

ka*********:

Do u remember the beginning scene where fake adelaide says"you can do whatever you set your mind to"well that makes sense now

Mo*********:
Well we can all agree on that it was the dads fault for letting his daughter out of sight father of the year

Br**********:
Mmmm that explains why she talks like that. crushed and damaged her throat when she choked her.

Ni*********:
Just finished watching this for the first time today. Strong beginning to the movie, really sets up well and gets you intrigued. The biggest problem with it is the middle of the movie where I found it to be a little predictable and it kind of drags in some parts, particularly the violent scenes. There is some humor thrown in and it helps a little bit. The Final Act seems to be the same way until it's revealed that you were rooting for the bad guy the entire time. Which was a great twist. I appreciate the symbolism in it and it's awesome to see Peele making something that is original. He's got a fantastic mind for this stuff. I liked "Get Out" much much more but I can appreciate "Us" even though it doesn't have the same rewatch value to it. Can't wait to see what Jordan comes up with next!

ka**********:
I live in the same city that this was filmed (Santa Cruz) & lemme tell you I was scared as hell after watching

Tr*****:

If I analyze this movie too much my brain hurts from all the how's lol

Co********:

We have to protect Jordan Peele’s brain at all cost

Ko*******:

Did anyone notice that Adelaide was eating strawberries when the family was eating fast food???

Ch************:

Okay but my question is then, why did the "real" addy keep reffering to herself as the shadow?

Ka********:
Why do I watch this kind of stuff when it’s bedtime now I gotta turn on some cartoons

MI*:

What I found interesting is that the scissors kinda look like human heads back to back. Scissors are the double edged sword. They are all using the scissors to kill the people.

Th**********:
For starters, I so want to blame the parents at the fairgrounds! The dad was wrong for being that intoxicated that he's not able to watch his daughter. And the mom already had a gut feeling that she should take Addy to the bathroom with her, whether Addy had to use or not! ALSO, I was weirded out how Jason knew something was up with his mom at the end....but I now realize Red could have easily enlightened him with the truth of what went down when she was younger. When the fake Addy rescued him from the locker, he was different THEN and didn't even hug her back smdh.

I guess Jordan Peele is on one.... again! His mind, sheesh

Ge*************:

And and Adelaide said "Let's go to Mexico" because she knew that wasn't a problem there

Sa**********:
I like to think that when Red kidnapped Jason, she told him the truth: how Adelaide kidnapped her years ago, left her underground, and took her place above ground. But, and here's the kicker: she does not urge him to side with her, or turn against his mother (because like it or not, Adelaide gave birth to him, he's her son, even though she's "fake"). And in the end, even though Jason knows the truth, he does not outright reject Adelaide, and how could he? He connected with his doppleganger the most, and Pluto was the most interested in studying his double. And ultimately, even as an imposter, Adelaide was a fighter: she escaped from hell, built a family, and killed to keep it intact. Red also escaped, but despite having arguably stronger motivation, lost. So who would you expect Jason to side with? The "true" version of his mother that is a total stranger, threatened his family, and is now dead? Or the "false" version he's known all his life, has killed to keep him safe, and is alive? There's really not much choice. Putting that mask on a final time is a sign of acceptance, and homage to his dead "brother". And Adelaide would surely appreciate that, she could not bring herself to kill either of Red's kids.
For a moment, I entertained the idea that maybe Pluto didn't actually die, and that Red kidnapped Jason to switch the boys off-screen. But I like the idea that Jason simply understands his mother better by the end, and accepts her, monster and all. If you think about how quickly the family was able to recover and fight back, some of that has to come from Adelaide, particularly how Zora goes from not knowing or caring where her brother is to beating anything that moves with a golf club to protect him. She sure didn't get that from her dad. And in a world where the Tethered are now above ground, the family is going to be fighting a lot. Best to have the mom that actually wins life and death battles on their side, in that case.

Lo**********:
This movie was soooo creepy. It didn’t scare me as in like “omg I’m never sleeping again” it scared me like “oh my god, that’s crazy” Imagine switching places with your doppelgänger and then your doppelgänger terrorizes you and tries to take their place back.

ra*****:
Adelaide's shirt progressively becomes stained red throughout the film, slowly revealing her true origin.

Me*********:

I knew that they swapped from the beginning i just had that feeling...

Ma***********:
That explains the sheers two blades connected at one single point. One doesnt move without the other

dt******:
I laughed soo hard everytime they made those weird yelling sounds.

Ri*************:
Why didn’t the “real” little girl just leave once she was out of the handcuffs? She wasn’t locked up the full 30+ years she was down there after being switched with the tethered version

Re*****:

Another blaring thing to add in is when they ask something like "What are you?" and Red replies, "We're Americans!"

ne*****:

I went to see this with my twin.....you should of seen the looks we got at the end

An***********:

yo who tf is paying for the electricity in those tunnels??

Ca***:
So no one is gonna explain how the hecc they were able to make a perfect chain through water and over hills??

A*:

Wait so Lupita Nyong'o can win best actor and best supporting actor

Na**:

Jason was in the tunnel in a locker when his mom was fighting red. When he looked at his mom in the car funny it was almost like he knew everything. And she knew he knows

Ra***:
I literally just watch this movie an still don't know wtf I just watch lol smh

Ez******:

After watching the movie a second time sooo many things make sense now.
1) when they were at the beach with their children and the woman asked Adelaide what was wrong and she said she just has a hard time talking.
2)when the son went to use the bathroom and saw the man standing up with his arms stretched out to the side and blood dripping down his fingers. I figure that he killed his tether (the one they saw in the ambulance on their way to the beach), now he stands and stretches out his hands waiting for the others to join hands with him.

Sp************:

I get it but what I dont get is: as we see when the younger version of Adalade is going to the house of mirrors and the other version is going up, we see all thr tethered are living the exact same lives as the real versions of people above ground, like everyone down below simulating the fair and the people there. So basically everyone is living the same events just different. But we see reds plan and how everyone planned this. How were they able to do this when everyone up above was foing something else. Also we see them both dancing at the same so its proof that it's just an exact replica of each others lives. But while they were planning the attack , how did they suddenly break free of mimicking the people above ???
