Playtime Comments : [TED] Inside the mind of a master procrastinator | Tim Urban

Tim: "We need to all take a long, hard look at that calendar, and we need to think about what we're really procrastinating on, because everyone is procrastinating on something in life" 13:18

Me: Counting every row and column on the life calendar to confirm that there are exactly 4680 squares on the screen.

Pr*******:
Me: ok we’re starting at 6:00
Time :6:05
Me: Aw jeez now I guess I have to wait till 7 to start.

Wa****************:

Here's the thing, I believed him about the best thesis ever story. A lot of procrastinators are actually really intelligent and amazing at writing. They just struggle with time management. I would honestly believe if procrastinators were 95% Neurodivergent. In 7th and 8th grade any social studies essays we had to write were written almost entirely in 3 hours and turned in at 11:59 PM on the due date. Every time I was complimented on my writing style and vocabulary choice. Instead of "Which caused" and "Causing" I wrote "Which prompted" and "Prompting".

Li*******:

Man nods in agreement, :" Write that down, RIGHT THAT DOWN!!!" 9:24

12:19 that guy is like 'damn...'

When teacher gives a lecture about you in class 5:26

I know that this speech is supposed to make you smile, but as a person who had his own life destroyed by the instant gratification monkey I also felt the bitterness inside my heart.
In my case, the monkey took total control over the rational decision maker. It feels like I don't have any free will anymore, and all I'm left with is guilt and depression.

No*********************************:

A procrastinator's favorite day of the week is tomorrow.

Na***********:

The only reason I clean or do anything productive is when I'm procrastinating to make procrastinating feel better😅

co*********:
I have a class centered around TED Talks, but this literally is my all-time favorite one.

Ma**:
Uh, it's called "ADHD". Watching a TED talk won't give the help that's needed...it just reinforces what people know and experience

Ca********:

Don't call my home a "dark playground" that is rude.

Sc******:

Nobody:

Me: now I don’t wanna watch this anymore Imma go Finnish my homework

Ts************:
If you're scrolling through the comments and procrastinating, don't like my comment. Go get your work done and that dread you're feeling will be gone.

Na******:

I'm a procrastinator
There are two ways I can get things done
1, under pressure panic moments
2, when I plan my day and do the important things first

wa********:

I will clean an entire house instead of starting my hw Bc I love using “well I need a clean space first” as an excuse and then being too tired to do any hw after which is then also used as an excuse not to start my hw 🙃

I'm procrastinating, by reading comments about other people procrastinating, on a video about procrastinating.

And admit it, so are you.

The worst part is that he didn’t end with “thank you for coming to my TED talk”

I have the most important test of my life tomorrow that will decide my future and i am watching this. Rip me

Ho*******:
I bet everyone watching this is procrastinating by watching a video about procrastination 😂

ce***:
I can say this is one of my most favorable TED speeches of all time, smooth with a sense of humor and a moderate amount of weight at the end. If somebody indicates me as a procrastinator, I wouldn’t even deny it. My every-day life is threatened by the so-called ‘Instant Gratification Monkey’, and my ‘Rational Decision-Maker’ doesn't seem to have much authority over things. I postpone most of the things, and I do feel guilty and self-conscious on the way, but that was just that.
Anxiety, self-hatred and a bit of depression and once I recover, I’m doing it all over again. But after hearing the speech, I realized for the first-time that some things don’t even have a deadline. And the non-deadline situations he laid out were the things that I thought were most important in real-life.
My family, my health, relationships with friends and many others. If these were the most important to me, then I couldn’t even possibly postpone any of them. But yet I did. It became clearer for me when I saw the Life Calendar. I merely knew death as a final duty and had no idea of how much time I had in my hands for I could not touch nor see it in person. Now that I am aware of how much boxes I’ve got, I promise myself to make change for the better.
