I replace my wipers when they start streaking, but in between that time I take the wipers off every 3 months and clean the road film and dirt from the blades with a "Tub O'Towels" cleaning wipe (or any cleaning wipe would do). In 3 months those blades are incredibly dirty and this cleaning makes them like brand new :-)

That hook-style wiper blade seems to have a locking tab that I didn't see you press to unlock it, and I didn't hear you mention it. But when you installed the new one, you could hear the locking tab click into place. Did I miss something? (I usually do.)
