well I have a  super radar for arrogance , and one of the reasons I love this channel ,is the absence of it

Ni****:
Can't believe its been 7 years already. This channel is growing exponentially.

Ma***************:

Any body in shock after the second guy came up with Idea trees are primary sources of CO2 :/

Ki**********:

I also like an idea someone posted on another video saying that Dereck will use the worst answers to make people who feel uncomfortable about the amount of knowledge in science they have, and by seeing other people who don't have the right answers makes them feel like they aren't alone, because the internet is very hostile to those that get things wrong, so in a way Dereck is actually saying its ok to not know something, and its ok to get things wrong, so long as you work to improve.

An********:
Imagine just walking there seeing a guy speak to himself, then later he comes back with different clothes and does the same thing

ya*********:
to be fair to the dude in yellow shirt, trees do emit co2 in the absense of sunlight. when they arent photosynthesising, the also breath the way all living things do

Se********:

Doesn't know the elements that make up water
"How rude! Not everyone is a physicist."

Ju*******:

The first boy in yellow is me when my crush asks me why I'm stalking her.

Lu******:

I've never felt like this man is condescending in his approach, but I always thought that this face expression reads as "I see exactly why you think that and I feel how amazed you'll be when you grasp it".

Dr****:

"We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology." - Carl Sagan

Fi***********:
"There's a difference between being unknowledgeable and intelligent." You just earned a subscriber for being down to earth.

Ka**********:
First signal that idiocracy is upon us: when people are scolded for knowing things.

Jo*************:

I think your motives are true. Keep going!

us*******:
The kid saying trees emit carbon dioxide is 100% correct. Just that on the net they produce more oxygen.

Ev***********:
It isn't you who is making all these people look stupid, they're doing a fine job of it on their own. I learned what elements make up water in fifth grade.

Mi******:

When he asks "what makes up water?" instead of guessing because you don't know, turn around and say "I don't know, what makes up water?" Responding with a question is the only way that you will learn the answer.

Jo********:
Everybody who’s getting mad at him for “making others look stupid” are just butthurt and don’t know how to say “yes I’m incorrect, teach me what is correct”

Jo*********:

2nd duck walks into a bar and says: "I'll have H20 too".

2nd duck dies.

Sl******:

That last quote was deep.

mi**********:
He's not making people look stupid; he's making stupid people look stupid! haha

Co***********:

I never thought, I'd see this day... Trees are the cause of global warming people....... Destroy the TREES!!

Ed*********:
I'm always just amazed at how much of a straight face you manage to keep.

Dr****************:

But wasn't it very stupid of the guy in yellow shirt to say that trees contribute a major part in giving CO2 to the atmosphere. Am I being rude?

Ta****:
The first step to knowledge is the recognition of ones own ignorance.

That's also how dogma makes you immune to knowledge. You don't learn anything, because you already think you know that "god did it".

Du*****:
I want a whole separate video on "when you say the correct stuff people just feel like their learning"

Pi*****************:
Trees do emit CO2, at night, but over the whole day they take in more CO2 than they emit at night

St**********:
Veritas is latin for truth. I imagine the added "ium" is to suggest the it is an element. Veritasium is the element of truth

Du*************:
How, exactly, does it qualify as "making people look stupid" if all you do is ask them a question? Aren't they making themselves look stupid? Anyone who is bothered and think it might happen to them should do 2 simple things: Do not say things that you don't believe to be true. Just say "I don't know" if you don't know what elements water is made of or what organisms emit CO2. Number two: Learn stuff. Actual stuff. Don't just trust random things you hear people say, ask questions and find out why they say those things. If they can't explain it, then put that into the "maybe, but I still don't KNOW" category and don't repeat it until you have been able to verify it. Done! Another bonus thing, which will make you an amazing person and result in everyone thinking you are smart (because you will end up being smart): When someone shows you that you are wrong, THANK THEM. Don't get embarrassed! When you find out that you are wrong about X, you never have to be wrong about X again... ever! For the rest of your entire life! That's a GOOD thing, no matter how wrong you were before!

Ry***:

When somebody stumps me with a question about something I don't know, there is a momentary feeling of inadequacy which is immediately followed by a much more interesting feeling of excitement at the opportunity to learn something new. That initial uncomfortable feeling instantly yields growth, if only we let it. Perhaps some people don't want to grow, or are frightened by it, and so they plant their roots in feeling inadequate and then blame other people for it. Becoming stuck in feeling stupid or inadequate is basically just an irresponsible choice.

To******:

Never stop what you're doing. You do not make people look stupid and you're not condescending, you're very polite. It amazes me that people have gone to school and taken the trouble to learn formulas and science facts and yet never contemplating on how these different rules fit together and allowing them self have that wow! experience after class? This is also the parents responsibility. When I do math homework with my 10 yld daughter (profile picture) I make sure that she actually gain some understanding on how the rules fit together in her current assignment. As a student it is very easy to kid yourself into thinking that you're just accumulating data and memorizing as much as possible is the way to success. The reason education is about memorizing facts is that's how minds communicate. The actual knowledge where you feel a hunch if you remember a formula wrong or your intuitively know a calculation is wrong, is a capability you construct yourself and that can not be taught.
