So there was play in the idler pulley and it wobbles because of the bad bearings inside it? is that the usual reason pulleys go bad? because of their bearings?

Bi********:
can't u like just change the bearing and not the pulley

by*******:

how the hell I just heard my pulley making squeaking noise 2 hours ago, and youtube suggest me this video...

lo********:

If you wan't to save even more money, you can just press in a new bearing. Cost is around $5 for a new bearing.

na***********:
To inform my knowledge

Ri***********:

looks like my skateboard bearing

sa******:

Is always you have change both of the items or just the Belt or the Tensioner also what about just changing the Tensioner
bearing instead.

I love the way you make these easy to understand, and very good filming and clarity. I'm not a mechanic do-it-yourselfer, yet I watch your videos regularly. Every one who owns a car should be aware of your video collection. No longer can the repair shops confuse me, scare me, overcharge or falsely diagnose expensive repairs that are so urgent " ...your steering wheel will fall off next time you're on the freeway" . I can converse with the mechanics intelligently and this prevents my being taken advantage of, and I am now able to tell who are the honest mechanics and which ones aren't, and I can see what it's supposed to cost and how much labor is involved in each job. I hope more people like me find these videos and arm themselves before going in for repairs. Thanks for saving me thousands!

I would disconnect the negative terminal from the battery to ensure that fan will not come on. Could on a hot engine.

Thanks for this Chris. I got dinged $370 from my mechanic last year for this. Bastard!

Love your videos. I willALWAYS check with you before taking my vehicle into the shop from here on

mi*******:
great vid. u forgot to mention that u should disconnect the negative battery cable (on most cars where the negative is the ground cable. i think there r much older vehicles where the positive cable is the ground tho rare.) do this cuz sometimes the radiator fans can come on even tho the car is not running.

Ph*****:

Idler pulley on a 2006 Nissan Murano, can you help, thank you!!

MS******:
This video is so awesome! I was able to replace the pulley just like in the video. I'm in awe that I was able to do this job by myself. Even after I fixed it, I'm driving around in disbelief that I fixed it myself. And the best part? I marvel at the amount of money and time I saved by not going to the mechanic.

jo********:
My car made that noise. I sprayed water on the belt only and it would stop for a while. The noise came back and I replaced the belt. That fixed it.

ba***********:

Good video.
I went really cheap and just replaced the bearing. $7.99 at my local farm supply house. (Agri Supply)
The idler pulley bearing on my honda cr-v is commonly used on riding mowers (6203).

I'm a 34 year old woman that is going to change her very first pulley because of this video! I'm tired of asking my boyfriend or Dad to drop what they're doing to fix my shit. Now armed with your video, I GOT THIS! lol
Thank you!

Da**********:

Brilliant. I think I am addicted to your videos Chris. Your way of explaining things is very lucid. I am from India and I love cars.

Af**************:

Easy, cheap fix indeed but what I have found is that its just as easy to buy the bearings in bulk, 10 to a package in my case, and when I have one starting to make noise I pull that pulley off the auto and then using a vise and a few choice sockets push out the old bearing and replace it, installation is by reverse order of course. Total cost for this same repair as you just did was $1.29 for that bearing. I have many Ford trucks, autos and nicely enough they all use the same bearing in just about everything including the alternators front bearing. I only replace the bearings on steel pulleys, not the plastic ones which I throw away now. I Only mention this as are people enjoy doing their own repairs to save money. Nice video too. Thanks. I bought the bulk bearings through Amazon.

ds******:

damn i need a  pulley tensioner bar

co**********:

Thank you, I got it done for $101(2 pulleys, new belt, and tensioner) and a little soak in the rain. Runs like a champ now.

Re*********:
@ChrisFix   I might need to replace mine, it wobbles quite a bit. I'm looking to get a new belt as well anyways but am having difficult getting the right size belt. Computers and searches will say something fits, but since I ordered a belt that turns out to be 97.3 for an AC pump/pulley my truck doesn't have that and requires a shorter one. The problem, compatibility searches are inaccurate, my owner manual barely mentions that the belt exists, and a Haynes Repair Manual I bought to supplement my resources doesn't list belt sizes.

I would - guess - an 87.5" 7 rib belt is most likely the right size, but can't get any verification. I don't have the A/C pully although the temperature control panel has an A/C button and functions that seem to be fully operational.

Now that it is warming up, and I have the weekends off, it's time to get to work on all those projects for my truck. I've done a full tune up before on a previous Dakota, but the rest will be DIY supported by your videos. I'll be sending you pics and updates for you to freely share.

Keep up the great work, you have made a lot of progress on your video productions.
