Pi**********:

couple extra things to pack,1.Antifreeze:2. Extra wipers3. very little speed

cm******:

1. Give your self extra time to travel as you may not be able to travel at full road speed if the snowstorm is bad.
2. Break twice as early and don't break hard so you don't slide or need to have the cars antilock breaks engage.
3. Accerate gently so you don't loose traction.

An********************:
one tip from me if you have better tires use them dont be that guy going out in a snowstorm with slicks bad idea
most times you can go to wallmart and get a good set of at tires for around $250 and if you have the money get very good tires and use them for winter only
couple more tips
1. if you have locking diffs use them if you are stuck they might give you a better hope of getting unstuck easily
2. open diffs? if you are stuck put you foot on the gas partially look on ur spedometer around 10-25 keep it there then pull the emergency brake rapidly while still having the foot on the gas
3. if you have a truck what i would do is put some weight in the back of the bed that helps with traction
4. if you have a 4wd or awd vehicle make sure to use it that a 2wd car or truck
5. if you are stuck and you have rubber floor mats put them under your tires they help give extra traction
6. only use 4x4 low if needed
7. if you vehicle is an automatic put it in 1 or 2 if you are stuck to give you lower gear ratios
8. use your hazzard lights if you are stuck as well if you are going slowly while in a blizzard
9. some times traction control is getting in your way of getting unstuck or even getting you stuck turn it off if you are stuck
10. buckle up and be safe
all of this is coming from a off road master (not really a master but very good at it)

I know this may not be to convenient but it might also be nice to bring another person with you as that little bit of weight and help to push a vehicle off powder or ice may help

Also I get about 5-6 feet of snow at my cabin each year in Canada so this helped thanks Chris!

XG*******:
I live in the Colorado Rockies. I never leave food in my car because wild life (bears) break into cars here and really cause damage

Ma********:

Man! Are you perfectionist!

Honestly, the #1 tip for driving in cold weather is knowing the ins and outs of how your car drives. Find some empty or abandoned space when it's snowy, if possible, and get acquainted with how it handles and what to do when it starts understeering or oversteering. If you can control your car like it's an extension of yourself, then you'll be far less likely to wind up in the ditch.

Remember: Studded tires are not required for cold weather driving. As long as you can handle your car you'll be just fine.

ni******:
Chain the tires on the snowy days

ze********:
Thanks chris this video helped me alot

Ni*******:

When you hit a big patch of ice, don't slam on the brakes.

Ch***************:

You forgot to add that you need non freezing blinker fluid

Ma*************:

i keep a good thermal sleeping bag, ( just in case i have to spend the night in my Tahoe) blankets and of course my tool bag...

I thought some people might find useful especially if you're going to be moving your car into a cold climate for a couple weeks is, add an engine block heater to your car. and make sure your washer fluid is not specialized for removing bugs but with a very low freezing point specialized for the cold.
if you're going to be driving in the snow a lot get winter tires if you're going off road or way up North, consider getting Tire chains.
Glow sticks, flairs or pylons are an extra touch butt still worth getting.

ev**********:
@chrisfix

Make shure you have winter air in your tires!

Ta************:
tire pressure. Lower tire pressure gives you a wider tire print which normally gives you more traction

Jo********:

Also make sure you have good tires. I like to lower the psi in my tire during a snow storm. Give yourself space, & no hard braking.

ze*****:
Very useful! We had some heavy snowfall around here! Thumbs up! You also need a head lamp, to have your hands free and counter skidding snow chains for the wheels!

Th****************:

A candle and a lighter or matches could be helpful.

Au**********:

One of my friends, his dad, whenever there was a snow storm, would carry eight 50 lb blocks of lead, to give his truck extra grip.

De******:

Put some weight on the back . Like I do on my ranger (RWD) two block of concrete sidewallks its fine . You need more go a head and put more .

“I don’t care if you have a 4wd Hummer”

Foreshadowing!?!

Some locations require traction devices such as a mountain pass. I keep a set of Diamond Tire Chains in my Toyota car just in case I get stranded in snow or ice as road conditions change. You would be amazed how an old FWD car will go in bad weather with deluxe tire chains and some common sense.

Je************************************:
Once again man very good and informative video. Living in Switzerland all this is pretty much the norm with the addition of a wool blanket. Keep em coming Chris allways looking forward to your vids

Ty*****:

I'm a service engineer and i get called out day and night .i carry a pack that will keep me going for 48hrs ,the pack contains food mainly pasta meals and dried soups ,warm cloths, a reflective jacket the ones you see construction workers using whils working on the highways,a sleepin bag, flash lights spare batteries, also carry note pads and pens just in case of a collison ,first aid kit ,5 litres of water, and a selection of road maps (remember them lol) fortunatly i have never had to use any of  it ," be prepared or be dead is my motto  "

Jo*******:
Another good video.

Piece of advice from experience. Get sand, not kitty litter or salt, to keep in your vehicle. Kitty litter turns to slime when used as a traction device, I have never seen it work. Salt will work, though some argue it melts the snow and such and turn to ice, by which time you are long gone but it is corrosive. Do not keep salt in you trunk or bed. Even sand can cause problems if it spills and get into cracks and crevasses. Sand will hold moisture and cause rust. Keep you sand in a solic plastic container that wont tip over.
