I loved it. I appreciate how she could put in words many of my feelings and opinions. The problem when trying to defend feminism, especially when you're a woman, is that you'd find automatic barriers in people's minds, so many "but...". It requires to spend a long time studying, researching and articulating your arguments to be able to pass through all those barriers. Thanks for the help.

I feel bad for the people who stumbled upon this video and skipped it .. or heard the first five minutes and stopped.. it's the most positive way of talking about the subject

I respect both men and women. I don't have any problem with men overall... But I do have a problem with assholes. Which both some men and women can be sometimes.

Is this the audio that Beyonce used in one of her songs?

What an absolutely beautiful mind.

"I am angry. Gender, as it functions today, is a grave injustice. We should all be angry. Anger has a long history of bringing about positive change. But, in addition to being angry, I'm also hopeful because I believe deeply in the ability of human beings to make and remake themselves for the better."

Ugh, this. I have little to add.

Ka***************:

“Most positions of power and prestige are occupied by men.” It’s sad to imagine that we may never live to see that change

TN*************:
I love how she is feeling so human when she’s talking

I absolutely love Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie!

This video is such an eye opener. I see Nigeria (Africa) is soooooo soooooooo much similar to India. Word by word it's the same. The cultural perspectives, the expectation of gender roles....impossible!!!!

il***************:

"We have been raised to think ofwomen as inherently guilty and have been raised to expect so little of men that the idea of men as savage beings without any control is somehow acceptable"

We need equality. Not female privilege. Not male privilege. Equality.

My 6th grade social studies teacher showed my class this on the first day. He was one of the best teachers I've ever had.

You inspire me Chimamanda

Beautiful message, so truly powerful.

Sometimes YouTube recommendations are the greatest thing on Earth. As the eldest son in an African family witnessing the borderline sexism displayed, this video was needed. Thank You Miss Ngozi Adichie.

one of the best speeches in history

I must admits she's very critical with her points and kudos to her, I learnt a lot. LGBT and Feminism still have a long way to go in this Continent of Africa. We respect woman and people's feelings but then again its something we didn't have in our tradition/culture so expect some reactions to them.

CI******:
My younger brother came to live with me, will go to the kitchen and get his food, then drop the utensils for my niece to return from work and wash, because according to him washing plates is not for men. Of course I did not put up with that. You do the dishes and any other domestic work when its you at home or leave my house. He got the message clear.

Et********:

This reminds me of years ago, back in secondary school when a teacher divided my class into two groups for a quiz. Boys versus Girls and at the end of the quiz the girls won and he said to us (guys) "Why did you let the girls win?" I complained that he was being sexist by assuming that the girls won because we allowed them to win and he called me a woman and insulted me. Funny enough, everyone in class laughed at me, including the girls. Like Chimamanda expounds here, some African women aren't raised to be feminist, and I grew up believing everyone is equal, not just gender but race and sexuality. It is ok for a man to be feminist too, as John Stuart Mill supported the equality of women and the freedom of individuals.

De********:

The reason why men are so hostile towards feminism is because feminism seeks the end of male supremacy and male privilege. When you have privilege, you don’t want to give it up. So you accuse the oppressed group of reverse discrimination.

We men have so many privileges. We don’t have to worry about our drinks being spiked in a bar or club. We don’t have to worry about being cat-called and harassed. We don't have to worry about being judged on our physical appearance. We don’t have to worry about being taken seriously at sports, in science or math, in positions of authority and leadership, or fixing a vehicle, among other things. Women have to worry about those things every day. When we men are informed of all the privileges we have, we get defensive. The realization that we benefit from the structural oppression of women is too much for many of us to handle. But we need to just get over that. Because coming to terms with the fact that we benefit from oppression is NOTHING compared to the hardship of having to deal with oppression.

I'm proud to be a feminist and to stand with women as they continue the fight for equality.

Thank you, once again, Ms. Adichie!

Am*******:
This woman aspired me alot.
Am a girl and I don't hate men
I have been raised by a dad I loved
I have been a sister to a brother that I loved
And am hoping to marry a kind hearted person that I'll love
I love men and respect them
I do believe in equality.
And I believe that being equal doesn't mean by being harsh to the other gender.
I know that men have been pressuring women but that doesn't mean that when you seek for equality doesn't mean to understimate men.
I don't care about what men did in the past but am in the present and I've never met a guy who understimated me in my family nor in my school.
Please excuse my English if you didn't understand
