1:21 I found a mistake at the 1840's Piano Keyboard you shown, more specifically in your transliteration. Your transliteration said ".ZYXYWVUTSRQPO" when it comes to the white keys, but (as shown in the image) the keyboard says ".ZYXWVUTSRQPO". That means you've incorrectly typed an extra "Y" between the "X" and "W" in your transliteration. :-)

0:10 you'r wrong. I use a Qwertz keyboard

To summarise this video:

There used to be other keyboards.

gn******:

'We all use it but don't know why. That's the definition of overrated.'

Except it isn't? What sort of logic is that? Jesus...

Sl**********:
Vox on the metric system: We should switch to metric because everyone is using it.
Vox on QWERTY: We should have different keyboards because everyone is using QWERTY.

this is the kind of video that doesnt show up in our recommendations until its 3am and your about to go to sleep

Ke********************:

in southern cali we use qerty because i swear to christ every single keyboard i have ever seen has lost the w key.

Normally I quite enjoy these videos but it really felt like you didn't actually say anything in this one... there was no point to it. "People debate if qwerty is the best but there were others that existed, they might not have been better though, but either way qwerty is what it is" -- "Okay..."

Sa*******:

How I learnt typing? I got used to chatting with my friends online. lol

Po*****:

Mine is qwertz ;) german layout

Th***********:

Oh wait you use QWERTY? I use WASD

RE*:

Well, the topic is certainly interesting, really fascinating to know where this order of letters came from. Probably 99 % chance of having this kind of keyboard is a bit too much, I personally have QWERTZ and many countries have their own kind typography.
That being said, it is super interesting the way you present this topic and make us question things we always took for granted and didn't even wonder why it is the way it is. Thank you!

“we’re all using it but we don’t know why. That’s the definition of overrated.”

Uh no it isn’t

Pl*****:

French people use azerty keyboards and germans use qwertzu keyboards. And is almost the same thing.

Qwerty was My password -_- Thx for leaking

Pi******:

From what I heard...The QWERTY Keyboard was made with the intention with the middle row having the most commonly used letters and the less “popular” letters are shifted up or down.

qWERTYuIoP you can spell TYPEWRITER on just the top row. Salesmen only had to learn that as a sample and they could make typing look effortless.

Watching this with a QWERTZ keyboard

Av***********:

This my sound wired but in my small little private elementary school, my computer teacher explained this to my class class in an extremely odd way. Her goal was to get us to memorize the keyboard (My parents also told me this is how they learned) The teacher told us about a little boy named QWERTY. He had huge eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hands and feet. The letters were all an acronym.

Hey!

To be honest: I go around YouTube, and sometimes post a reaction about something American and how it is for a Dutch person:

So…..

There is a Dutch version of QWERTY. It's the same, but some little things are diffrent like the / and the " are swapped and stuff like that. But nobody uses the Dutch version of QWERTY, because the hardware keybaords in the Netherlands are printed the same way as the ones sold in America.
In France and Germany they have a diffrent version, even on your phone. French has AZERTY (Don't know for sure) and the Germans have diffrent keys for their umlauts (ä, ö and ü). But I don't know if these 2 versions are actually used.
Another fun fact, the Greek keybaord is based on QWERTY, so are the Japanese and Chinese keyboard.
I love languages, so it's not that strange for me to know how to type in diffrent languages.

People always told me that QWERTY was the easiest/fastest way to type. That's why it changes for diffrent languages. I don't know for sure, but it seems logic to me.

Th***********************:

I learned how to type in the 3rd Grade. By 7th grade I could type 102 words per minute with 4 errors. I'm programmed QWERTY. If you change the keyboard, I will have to learn how to type again. My 3rd grade teacher was a wife of a military Commander. She introduced herself as teaching us skills that we can use for the rest of our lives. Mrs. Congers was Right! One of the sentences that we had to type was "Now Is The Time For All Good Men to Come To The Aid Of Their Country". This has meaning to a young student. I loved thinking it, and I loved typing it! I just found out where it came from: "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of our country" is a phrase first proposed as a typing drill by instructor Charles E. Weller; its use is recounted in his book The Early History of the Typewriter, p. 21 (1918)." Mr. Weller actually said "Party" instead of "Country". My Father wanted me to play the Piano, but the Piano teacher's frequency didn't coincide with mine. So What? I loved Typing, and loved my teacher for teaching me typing. A Skill that I have used for the rest of my life (Throughout School, Career , and Life! I Love Mrs Congers!
