Jesus love you, he died on the cross for you, accept him as your lord and savior he can change everything. For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life" (Jn 3:16"

But you must repent too. From that time Jesus went about preaching and saying, Let your hearts be turned from sin, for the kingdom of heaven is near. (Matthew 4:17).

So you mean to tell me I learned about the Pythagorean’s Theorem in school but never about Black Wall Street?

Al************:
And people wonder why black citizens have such a hard time today, their struggles from long ago still carries on today. They started less privileged and were beat down any chance they had to better their communities.

Pa********:
That was then...now young black men are murdered legally by “afraid” police.

The city needs to build those 35 blocks back with homes and businesses that translates for inflation and payback lost wages. Something needs to happen for compensation

Fa*******:

Why tf wasnt i taught about this in school?

Mo*******:

Black Wall Street was not the name of Tulsa alone, there were dozens of Black Wall Streets in America that was destroyed with race riots. Wilmington NC, Richmond VA, Orangeburg SC, Huntsville AL, Durham NC, just to name a few!

Fo*********:

I grew up not far from Tulsa - I never knew this. Thanks for shining light on it!

Ez*******:
This fails to mention that the inciting action of the red summer of 1919 was black service members coming home from WWI only to find that they were treated better by the french and the brits than they were at home (and that's SAYING something considering that france continued to occupy the congo into the 1970s). Many black veterans were lynched in their uniforms. It's part of our history: we did TERRIBLE things and we should acknowledge it if we ever hope to progress.

KK******:

And republicans r doing the same thing today by calling BLM “riots”

He*********:

Look up Seneca Village, Central Park is built on top of another destroyed Black Community.

Ca*************:

The question truly remains, how many more Black Wall streets happened across this country that we didn't publicly know about?

Why dont they teach us this in school. I'm 40 and just learning about this.

Cl************:

I had a really in-depth and comprehensive high school us history education. I don’t say that to brag, but to emphasize the vast disparity in American history educations across the US, and how key things are left out of ALL of them, never the less how many things are left out of many of them. This might have been mentioned in my textbook. The words “black Wall Street” almost make a picture of those words on textbook page in my head. Regardless, it’s clear that whatever the textbook said or didn’t say about it, it wasn’t a focal point. I read every page of that textbook, and I don’t remember it, and I doubt many of my classmates remember either. And this was my favorite class in high school because it was so illuminating and fascinating, and it really connected America’s past to America’s present. It seems like there’s multiple classes worth of information that was left out that’s just as crucial for American students to learn, and I hope to study those someday.

Is**************:

I feel like mentioning this as a high school student in Oklahoma, you know, where Tulsa is. During our Oklahoma history class, we studied the Tulsa Race Massacre and it has been mentioned in many of my classes since then, I even drove through Black Wall Street for my driver’s ed class. It makes me mad thinking about how hatred had ended so many innocent lives.

This was just to let you all know that this is being taught in schools throughout the state now, I noticed a lot of people being upset that they were never taught this.

Edit: I just got this as a school assignment for distance learning less than a week later, what a coincidence? Also, happy Black History Month!

St***********:
Born in the 80s and growing up in the 90s..the most we ever learned about black people in school was Harriet Tubman, Henry Box Brown and the movie Glory..sad. Americans have a right to know the full scope of our history and the atrocities placed upon the individuals stolen and brought here as well as the indigenous people who's lives and land was stolen. Now that I have children of my own, from a young age we taught them to love the people who truly shaped our country. To celebrate the successes of their ancestors( inventors, scientists, Drs, outspoken activists)and to grieve the losses and to fight for equality as beautiful young mixed women. My greatest hope for my daughters is to one day wake up in a country that understands them and treats them with the same respect and rights as everyone else. It is a Disgrace that this country willfully keeps our citizens ignorant of the true history of this country.
