Look over to the right. Do you see all of those suggestions? Two dozen or so sexually-themed "TED" talks. These are hardly ideas worth sharing; it's become another click bait scheme. I used to watch for challenging, cerebral content, but now I expect sensationalist garbage and pseudoscience. I take no offense to any of this, and I'm a pretty open person, but this content is just trite. We all like how sex-related stimulations feel, because of or our evolutionary history- nothing profound here. I'm going to go watch some "Intelligence squared" vids, at least until greed causes that to jump the shark, too. Sigh.

Ke*************:

Loved this and thanks Jane for the open candid talk. You have opened my eyes to sharing more with my new partner even thou it was a bit unnerving at first as there has to be some big trust going on when you are so vulnerable about your feelings and how intimate you can be with someone,..but I want to share everything with them. Since I look at things with a new light things in my life will definitel change for the better..

Ly*******:
Brave and beautiful..thank you for being you...enjoy what it takes..

In******:

There are some really valuable points . Nice topic .

Ca**********:
It seems like everytime someone brings up a Mature conversation the comment section attracts the most Imature in society to complain about it.

Am************:

As a healthcare worker I hv never shied away from discussing this with the aged. It is so necessary for ones healthful enjoyment.
And I find it so sad that there are so many within the healthcare industry who push this topic under a mat. Good for you lady.

Ga********:

It helped me quit smoking.

Ja***********:
No more guilt with youthful circle jerks with friends!!!

pr**********:

Jane, ignore all of these ignorant negative comments, the people who hide under the comfort of being anonymous on the internet do not deserve any attention. It takes a lot of courage and strength to do this. you are an incredibly strong person. I appreciate your effort to ease this conversation among women. Thank you.

Jo*********:
Takes guts to touch on the subject especially for an attractive woman such as her.... Admirable crusade she's got more courage then most men

Si*********:

Thank you for your honesty and open and insightful views Jane. If we were all as truthful about ourselves as you we'd all get on a lot better.

CR**************:

This is quite confusing to me as a man bringing up masturbation, only because i believe masturbation and masturbation WITH THE USE OF PORN to be two very very different things. The use of porn is hurting a lot of people's subconscious fantasies and surfaced actions in relationships, so saying masturbation is good can sound misleading to me, but i don't know if i believe masturbation by itself (with or without porn) to be a good thing (at least for me) to indulge in at all since i'm still trying to rid of years and years of pornography addiction from my hardwired mental circuitry revolving around the subject... I often wonder how my body would react to touching myself without porn having ever been a part of my life, what would it feel like? Would i even have any desire to overly and unhealthily masturbate 2 or 3 times in one day without the access to such graphic images at the click of a button as i used to when i was 16/17? Would it become a more natural approach to relieving my fully activated imagination to help me get off? And would i actually feel GOOD after as opposed the negative/sluggish feelings i experience from it today? I expect it would be a much more rewarding experience, but i can never be sure. To each his/her own i guess.

Ma***********:
She does make good points, and I admire her bravery to talk about this subject and her experience, but that vulva puppet is just weird and embarrassing!! LOL!!

ha*******:

I was waiting for her to play the piano

Th*******:

There is a serious deficit of real information and proof about the real benefits (physical health) and dangers (mental health) of masturbation. These talks are alright, but don't help. Please give real information next time, not just stories and nice words.

Ch*******:
You wonderful brave woman xx

Ra**********:
A nice honest person if I ever Heard one. Bless.

Ma**********:

how did I get here from videos about the dark web?

je*****:
What I love most about TED talks is not just the information given by real experts in their fields, but the fearlessness about discussions that are often politically incorrect, unpopular or just plain uncomfortable. These are, by definition, the subjects that most need to come out into the open because they are the ones that cause the most problems. Thanks TED for the uncompromising and unapologetic striving for informing the public about the REAL personal issues that affect our daily lives rather than the 9 o'clock news.

Ys******:

I agree, dearie. Sex with another person is ok - but not like the real thing.
My only advice is don't do it on the bus, especially if you're the driver.

Da**********:

No evolutionary problems here thanks.

Mi************:

Once again I feel a little less alone in the world

An**********:
As some constructive criticism, this is not a very scientifically valid TED Talk. It seems far too personal and anecdotal. The reason I am skeptical is because I have been reading some studies which show some negative effects of masturbation on men. I am hoping to not come off as rude, but it's hard for me to take a few isolated experiences and believe it without the data of a larger population sample.

I agree that general openness about sexuality isn't a bad thing, but I think that she should have a lot more data behind her before I find what she's saying to be especially credible.

Ru************:
Great Ted talk, thank you for this.. really great info

An*********:
I did my homework! :)

Da*************:
She is adorableeeeeeee

As*********:
Thank you Queen

Mr*******:
whats the piano for? i tought she would gives us a solo.

Vi*****:
Very important talk. The whole world needs to do away with misconceptions and taboos about sex.

Tr************:
Wow!  Going through and reading comments I was amazed.  I couldn't read all 2409 comments.  It was too much.  People were no longer talking about the video.  I can only comment on what my female friends have told me.  Some of my friends were taught all their lives that they shouldn't touch their private parts.  And, it was made only for the husband to enjoy and to reproduce.  Whatever?  To each their own.  I'm married but my husband works at night.  So, he wasn't always around when I wanted him too.  I've done it for pleasure, to help me go to sleep, to help my sinuses, and to help my back pain.  It worked.  It may not be a long lasting relief from those symptoms but anything is better than nothing.  However, I've noticed since my back surgeon and going through menopause, I don't have the desire to masterbate near as often now.  But, that's just me.  Everyone is different.  I did have my OB/GYN tell me once that if you use a battery operated device too much it can desensitize your "area" (on girls) which could affect how often you can reach a orgazim.

Ma*************:

this shoul be named, TED XXX

er*******:
masturbation helped me recover from stroke, the nervous system is like a  electrical system to the body, just like troubleshooting a electrical system, neurons pass information or electrical impulses back and forth, about the status of cells and muscles, genitals furtherest from the brain and are used daily, autonomous nervous system that brain control (peeing and defacating) help exercise the brain. Brain impulses to farther regions of the body, also clears up the clogs to the entire nervous system and restores communication. You are now healed, just as much as walking and exercise does to your body and muscles.
