No, you can't tell it's 4k unless you have a big ass TV. Otherwise it just looks 1080. You should know that.
Tv****:
I guess you were right all along... YouTube is starting to slowly destroy itself by removing ads from "non-adfriendly videos" and stuff like that. Maybe Vessel is the new video sharing website after all...
Ty***********:
It's cool that content creators have a way of making money, but I already pay too many subscription fees on the internet. PS+, XBL, Netflix, Hulu, Skype, etc. Why has no one come up with a way to provide quality videos to the internet without a subscription fee?
Oh wait, YouTube, right. Why do people keep coming up with paid services again?
Fr*******:
Man, i follow your channel for a long time, it's one of my favourites. It's sad that my favourites channels are going to other sites that i have to pay for... like patreon, vessel, etc. All of this is about the money. YouTube put a lot of comecial in every video, them the people started use AdBlocker, them the youtubers moved becouse of money. I have no condition to buy something like this, not becouse i don't have the money, but becouse of the burocracy of my country. i'm glad you still putting the videos here, even if it's not the same time. Sorry for my bad english
Ru************:
This is how I will treat this:
Up until now, I didn't know vessel.com. I don't feel enclined to check it out either. There is no reason, except financial support, to use vessel since every video will still be free here on youtube, even though it's later than on vessel.
The nice thing about science videos: they are not time dependent as news are.
I will not switch to vessel.com if you were not to post your videos on here anymore. I would miss your content but: There are plenty of science choices for now. I do support one or the other channel via patreon though.
That said, diversity is always better and I do hope this works out for you.
But I will not switch to another video platform to check my subscriptions for new content (for the foreseeable future).
"Vessel was a commercial video service launched in early 2015 by former Hulu executives Jason Kilar and Richard Tom.[1][2] Vessel was acquired by Verizon on October 26, 2016 and was closed on October 31, 2016."

I don't also understand why so much dislikes.. This will help him to get more and faster content on youtube.
Why wont you support him? And it's not like we wont get videos anymore if we wont donate, So much misunderstanding.

Spoke too soon, YouTube Red is the way to go
Ja*********:
I just signed up for vessel for linus tech tips, saw you were there too so its like a 2 for 1

When he pulled up the V potato who also thought he was talking about Vsause- like if you did (;
Ji*****:
So Vessel subscribers won't get any extra content, they just get it earlier or did I understand it wrong?
Fe***:
Vessel is definately interesting, but I don't think it'll stay for very long. They shuffle around the community a bit, but at the end of it, YouTube will still be superior.
Kind of reminds me of what Patreon did to the creators, too. You started hearing a lot about it for a while, and then it just died down to a point where now there's a mention of it here and there but not as prominent as I thought it would be at first.
I'll still make an account, but I won't get my hopes up. That said, I sincerely hope Vessel works out for the creators, as YouTube's CPM have been extremely low lately and you need that money to grow more and actually make a living. Good luck! :-)

(jk i have no problem with this, keep doing what you're doing)

It's extremely important to remember that there was still enough food in Ireland during the potato famine - all those people died because the few hundred people that owned all the land refused to stop exporting other foodstuffs. It's the same greed that caused hundreds of thousands of Irish and Scottish families to be shipped to USA, Canada and Australasia without choice. So it might be an advertising video, but there are two lessons to be learned here and Veritasium has only painted half of the picture. Besides, the people who died were NOT the same people that decided to depend on only one type of potato.
Za******:
I'm curious if you considered Patreon and teaming up with Hank Green. IF so, what did you think were the pros and cons?
Fe******:
More competition is good, yes. But paid subscription? I'm not convinced.

Nice shave Derek!
Just look at the effort he puts into his videos! He even travelled all around the world looking for the most radioactive places. He could've made a short blog and probably made the same amount of money; that's what dedication looks like, and if he wants to make a living from it then it's his call, and if we want to support it that's great!
Just remember all this free videos we get from content creators like him are possible with money, so stop being so idealistic and appreciate his hard work and overall transparency, because we don't get much of that out there.
os******:
If you're ever to compete with youtube you need to make it more free, not less.

Everything either has to be free for everyone, or needs to be painstakingly spelled out in gory detail for people to understand in order to accept. He could have just went into talking about vessel, but no, he decided to give you guys some good-to-know information while providing a fun analogy. Vessel allows creators to gain some extra funds to produce better and/or more content. Comparing it to old media (movies/shows/TV) makes no sense. Old media, only in the rarest of cases, is ever free, no matter how long you wait, and you usually have to wait YEARS for that cool movie to show up free on TV. YouTube is free, and if a show comes on Vessel first, it'll most likely come out on YouTube a week or so later... you wont be waiting damn years for your free content. Why is there so much outrage over having to wait an extra week so these awesome creators can make some extra money, and in turn give you assholes better videos?? There are absolutely no ifs, ands, or buts about it, everyone who is outraged by this announcement is just plain wrong.

i dont like the idea of giving people who are able to pay for something an advantage over people who are not able to pay. advertising is ok, but i dont even like the idea of forcing some 20 seconds ads on my viewers for a 4 minute video.
then again, that's probably why i'm making so few money off of youtube that in regard to my average video's revenue in a year, it would've been better to work as a cleaner for the amount of time i spent on editing the video - at least in regard to money. :P
but you're right, it's not good to rely on one thing to make a living. and as i'm not living off of youtube, i'll just continue things as they are, a dreamer who spreads free knowledge and has all the marketing guys laugh at her for being stubborn... =)

"A science presenter is going to get paid ! Bring out the torches ! Bring out the rakes!"- Generic joe with low IQ
Derek, you are a godsend. I found your videos at crucial time of my life when I was completely upset with my persuasion of engineering. I am from Bangladesh, viewing your content sitting on a chair doing nothing yet getting inspired with each viewing. I am even considering to start a channel of my own because I see how you have brought science to millions. I am going to support you just because science needs more people like you, out there, making awesome stuff that inspire people to understand and respect science.
[Veritasium] We gathered comments about popular videos and looked at them in summary, including play time, and order of popularity.
It's a good video or channel, but if you're sad because it's too long, please leave a YouTube channel or video link and I'll post it on this blog.
