This time, I will review the popular YouTube videos.
These days, even if it's good to watch on YouTube, sometimes people skip it or don't watch it if it's too long.
When you watch Youtube, do you scroll and read the comments first?
To save your busy time, why don't you check out the fun contents, summary, and empathy comments of popular YouTube videos first and watch YouTube?

2:10 who else enjoyed the pigeons starting their flight? :p

00:00 and I have work tomorrow. But im watching Derick. At least these videos are transferrable in engineering. Just

I just want to know where they got the damn slinky

We*****:

Let's say we have 1 km slinky, we drop it, will the bottom stay hanging in air without dropping to earth?

li**********:
I want to play with slinkies for a living, too

Te*************:
I wonder how a slinky would behave in zero gravity.

LU******:
Some people are like Slinkies. They aren't really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to my face when I push them down a flight of stairs.

Re*************:
Students: "goddamnit these physicists and their slinkies again"

El*********:
You're so cute lol. That was awesome. I was actually really wanting to try this after your slinky video and then, you uploaded this! :D

wi*******:
if the "information" that the slinky has been dropped is taking long let's give the slinky a phone and call it right when you let the slinky go, in that way they will start to fall at the same time!!!! XD

Od**********:

THE OLD MAN HAS JEDI POWERS!!!! :D

De******:
Today, i learned nothing.
But i did see an old man "drop a big slinky"

Da*************:
what about a weight at the end of the slinky?

si*************:

That crocodile dundee reference though.

So***********:

I'm curious: how long did it take for this slinky to return to its normal shape?

Pr*********:

What if u dropped this supersized slinky in long transparent tube not much wider than the slinky, so top of it cant overtake parts that it hit? :D anybody interessted in that?

Bh*****************:
It is very similar to a scenario in which Sun suddenly disappears. It will take us 8mins 20secs to realise that there is no centripetal force and we fly away tangential to the orbit.

My*********:

I new the Earth was flat and this proves it!

Jo**:

WAIT! what would happen if u were at the top of a building and had an insanely long slinky hanging down, and a person hanging onto the end of it then dropped it? Would the person stay stationary until the rest of the slinky reached them or would the added wait push the slinky to the ground before the top of the slinky reached them????????? Someone please answer this question is eating away at me!

Ai*****:

Kto z kgof?

Pa********:

Combine this with a bunch of springs, levers, switches, magnets, a few buckets of water, an hour glass, so aluminum foil, and you got yourself a perpetual motion machine. I just know it.

Ba**********:
Wait! But the horizontal experiment is different. There the force applied to one side of the slinky is not applied to the other side until the compression reaches image other side. In the vertical, the force of gravity applies to both sides equally in the same direction. Doesn't that ale a bit of difference?

De****:

IT LEVITATE

Ro********:

Amazing. How did it stay there?

Fe************:

with enough mass acting on the slinky, could in some point the bottom of the same fall at the same acceleration rate of free fall objects? I mean, could gravity overpass the spring tension?

Ga**********:
It seems like the top of the slinky falls faster than the compression wave inside it. That would explain why if doesn't stack nicely at the end of the fall : the falling top part would meet a still rigid part (part which still doesn't have the information of compression)

He********:
Why not get one of the astronauts to do a slinky drop in space for us?

Th***************:
alternate title: old man slinky makes YouTube guy do exercise.

Pa********:

So if I were to have an unending slinky, and I leave the top, the bottom floats?

wt*****:
That crocodile Dundee reference.

Th********:

I love this experiment!  The first time I heard about it I thought I had it figured out and the first time I tried it I thought had had verified my thought.  But this super sized slinky really tells me what I thought was going on IS what is going on.
The slinky is a spring right?  So all stretched out it just wants to collapse on itself right?  So being a spring with relatively equal tension on both ends wants to return to a center point.

SO, as the top half of the slinky is being pulled down by both Tension AND Gravity, the bottom half is being HELD UP by Tension and the MIDDLE is falling with gravity.

So what is going on is the top half is falling twice as fast, the middle is falling at regular speed and the bottom is being pulled UP at the same speed that the Middle is falling so that it appears to not move.

So  @Wendy Wirawan  , waddia think?

Ma******:

Although they didn't provide any explicit explanation of what really happened, taking out gravity as a variable (pushing the spring sideways) implied that this experiment cannot be done with a vertically inelastic or compact object such as an elongated stick/rod. The spring is simply the key variable. I stil find it amazing how the bottom slinky did not just seem to stay intact in that specific point in space but actually resisted the force briefly before giving in. It really looked like the bottom end of the slinky wanted to stay there as the spring pulled it up for the last time before deciding to completely submit to gravity.
