ph******************:

This was one of the best talks I've heard.
I've completed plumbing, electricity, remodeling a kitchen, tearing down and reconstructing walls all without any prior experience. it took me longer than a skilled laborer but I did a great job comparable to pros. I Did this while everyone told me to just hire a pro, that I didn't know what I was doing. this is what I did a few months ago, I have accomplished much more than just dirty jobs, but it will take forever to write. Intellectually, I graduated high school with a 2.1 GPA, yet have graduated with 2 undergrad degrees with a 3.72 and a 3.56. I will be getting my graduate degree soon.
All I know is that with Google and YouTube there no longer is an excuse to say, "I don't know how to do that."

Playtime Comments : [TEDx Talks] The Power of belief -- mindset and success | Eduardo Briceno | TEDxManhattanBeach

Ji*******:

4:44 - People with a fixed mindset worry the most about how they are judged, while those with a growth mindset focus on learning.

Av**********:

Very powerful line @1:49 " The moment we believe that success is determined by an ingrained level of ability, we will be brittle in the face of adversity "

Mi**:

6:50 - When asked about their scores, the kids with the fixed mindset lied more about their scores than the growth mindset kids.

Iz********:
I thought this video was extremely revealing and I love it. That being said, check out 8:28 to 8:31. I noticed that he has clearly done this lecture before (whether or not he had an audience who knows) because he literally surveys the entire audience, searching for any kind on response to the statement of negative stereotypes having the biggest pronounced effect for minority students and women in math. For whatever reason, no one responds [audibly] and he has this intense response to them not responding with a subtle eyebrow lift and a rather entertaining smirk! If you want to get even more deep, his train of thought was thrown off because I think he was expecting some kind of muttering, but he doesn't get anything which baffles him, and hopefully you too, so he briefly stutters on his next two words, "I'vvvveettthhhhpoken..". Meanwhile there's this very uncomfortable silence that occurs and he just continues on as if it never happened. Oh society, have we become this faint-hearted as to not have our own voice be heard?

gr**:

8:15 - when we teach a growth mindset not only does it improve achievements for students as a whole but it also narrows the achievement gap

Ma************:
Matthew 17:20 ""He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

1,000th comment woohoo...

As********:
3:11 That was a GOOD DANCE LOL

People with a fixed mindest show the greatest brain activity when getting confirmation of their abilities, such as a good grade. If you believe you are naturally good at something you won't progress.

Those with a growth mindset acknowledge their weaknesses and see them as an opportunity to improve. They frame it in a positive light. By constantly searching for ways to improve and accepting their inadequacies they rise to greater heights than those with a fixed mindest.

You may or may not be gifted but if you see yourself as nothing special and always aim to improve you will reach your full potential which will likely be higher than that of those generally perceived to be "special".

Kr**********:
for those who say this should be taught in schools, they already do... my teacher made me watch this for homework.

Ju*****:

"The moment we believe success is determined by an engrained level of ability, we become brittle in the face of adversity."

Ma*************:

All the kids who grew up being told they were smart and nothing else have horrible anxiety now lmao

Pe********:

This was very inspiring. I was required to watch this for a math class I am taking. I learned that I have a fixed mindset but the last part of the video, adding "yet" at the end of the sentence when I tell myself I can't do it is great advise!

An*******:
Learning how to change and improve yourself requires a positive mindset. It still comes from within. Will Power!

En*****************:

Ji*************:
my favorite thing about this video is how he shows that you are never at your best and you always have to have a more open mindset than a closed one if you want to get better

Ni***********:

Ca*****************:

Brilliant! This is what I needed to hear! Thank you x

I had a teacher who once told me that there are people with natural Intelligence and others who just don't have it. While she may be correct to a certain point, she was wrong in the fact that the way she said it, she really believed that for the non intelligent that was it and for the intelligent ones, life was going to be a learning experience. I took it with a grain of salt and watching this vid finally brings closure to what she said. Some people may not be intelligent as others but with effort and a growth mindset, we can achieve many things!

Sa**:

Any one here from school? Or ralston?

An*************:
right i feel like artists REALLY need a growth mindset.

Jo***************:

One of the best talks I have listened to so far.

Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard..

10 minute video on growth mindset:  every teacher should watch!

Ro***:
I have a mixed mindset of fixed and growth. I see a lot of myself in my younger brother. He easily gets frustrated when he doesn't understand something at the onset or when he gets a grade below my parents expectation even though he didn't try at all. My parents belittle us, i think, with compliments about our intelligence or comments about our grades. They always say that certain people in the family are "smart." So now, my younger brother has a tendency to think that he doesn't need to work hard. And I think that too sometimes. I hope to use this video to grow. Thank you!

Mr********:
Dr. Dweck favors praising the EFFORT, not the SUCCESS.  Praising the successful result in some endeavor, sets up the mindset in the the child that he/she must always succeed, always be on top. When this doesn't happen, the child feels a sense of shame of failure.  If a child succeeds at something, he fears attempting something more difficult as he may fail.  I am a success because I know that 2+2=4. I won't try to solve a harder problem because I may fail.

Just like physical exercise strengthens the muscles, mental exercise in tackling hard problems builds a stronger brain by making new connections in the brain. You may not be able to solve a problem today. But you will later.  I can't solve this YET. But I will eventually. This is mostly true of young brains which are plastic, and able to grow.  It becomes harder, if not impossible for let's say those over 40.  Laying on a couch watching football won't strengthen your brain.

st******:

I went from "I'm anti social. I'll just stay by myself, I like my company and I can survive on my own" to being an active part of my family and friends' lives. I went from "I don't want to be a teacher I can't teach. I don't have the patience or the skill for it" to being one of the best teachers at my school. I realize it's not that simple for everyone (not saying it was simple or easy for me) but we should push ourselves past what we think we know about ourselves. We are constantly changing and we can constantly improve. Keep growing folks!!
